HISTORY OF THE ISLAND

In 1795 the british east india company established their rule in kerala. From 1800 onwards , a resident was appointed by the british company. The first resident was colonel Collin macaulay followed by colonel John munroe.During Munroe's period a priest of Mr. Pulikattil joseph father expressed his desire to establish a seminary & church in munroe island. The piece of land thus achieved by the christian community later known as Munroe island.

It is one of the beautiful village in kerala, Lakes, lagoons, traditional fishing, traditional coir weaving, palm fringed narrow canals, green paddy fields, etc are some of the way side attractions in Munroe island.



Munroe island or munroe thuruthu is a small island surronded by the tranquil back water . The island is surronded by Ashtamudi lake & Kallada river.



Munroe island is situated at the joining of Ashtamudi lake & Kallada river.
